Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never been on a race bike before, can I still ride?

Yes, definitely!

We have expert riders who can train anyone from age 7 and up. You must be able to ride a bicycle; so be able to balance, use handlebar brakes etc.

Ideally, you should be >130cm tall. The bikes start at 60kg and the 10” seats are 60cm from the ground.

I’ve only ever rode a motocross bike, is it the same?

Kind of but also not really. You will have the riding basics down but riding motocross and road racing are quite different. Firstly, you don’t leave the ground, in fact, you get closer to it!

Come try a demo bike at our track days and see for yourself.

I don’t have my own minigp, can I still ride?

We have a limited amount of hire bikes which are available at Have A Go and Track Days.

What safety equipment do I need?

Every rider MUST have bike leathers, an approved helmet, back/chest protector, riding boots, and gloves.

We have a limited amount of leathers available to hire but it’s always nice to have your own sweat against your body! All other equipment is readily available from your local bike dealership.

If hiring leathers, please wear “skins” underneath.

What happens if I crash the hire bike?

We will make every effort to ensure you feel comfortable at the level you are riding. We hope accidents don’t happen but partaking in any motorsport comes with risk and you will sign a waiver before riding to acknowledge this.

It is recommended you partake in a riding course or have 1:1 coaching if you are unsure of your riding ability. You will require a basic handling skills assessment to ride in our track days otherwise a proven race history is required to hire our 190cc bikes.

In the event a hire bike is crashed and damaged, any repair costs will be forwarded to the rider. Please be aware of this, particularly if minors are riding, the responsibility transfers to their parent/guardian. Please read the ‘Understanding the Risk’ form carefully when registering to ride.

What category will I race in?

When you’re ready to hit the track and race we have 4 categories:

Junior Rookie (7-12 yrs) 10” 110cc Auto/manual

Junior Intermediate (11-15 yrs) 10” or 12” 160cc

Senior 160 (16+ yrs) 10” or 12” 160cc

Senior 190 (16+ yrs) 12” 190cc

Where can I practice?

Track days or Have A Go days are where you want to begin. This gives you 15min time slots over 4 hours to train and get the feel of the bikes. You will be in groups with other juniors, intermediate or advanced, depending on your riding ability.

Alternatively, you can join your local Kart club (permission varies between clubs) and use the track at your convenience outside of karting club days.

Can I upgrade my bike so it goes faster?

You may upgrade certain elements on your bike; front forks, rear shock, clutch, front brakes, auto to manual, etc, however, you cannot alter the HP.

If you wish to upgrade the engine and move up a category you can swap out the engine without buying a new bike, as they are interchangeable. Please ensure you are entered into the correct category when racing as a consequence.

Can a junior & senior ride the same bike on race day?

Yes! This is the unique advantage of Delirio miniGP. With separate categories, a family may own 1x 12” 160cc bike and have Mum/Dad race in the Senior 160 and little Jimmy/Jenny race in the Junior Intermediate!

Can girls ride too?

Without a doubt! We want to raise the profile of road racing in New Zealand and that 100% includes female riders! Girls and boys get to race together within their respective categories.

I already have a kayo, can I come to the track/race days?

Hell yeah! Come join, we’d love to see more bikes out there.

We have the Junior Intermediate and Senior 160 which includes Kayo as they are similar in cc rating.
